Wintering is Over!

Welcome to my new blog!  I’ll talk a little bit about my life in general, my creative process, and the artwork I create.

I began the new year full of hope and anticipation.  I planned to take just a few days of rest before entering the fray again.  But then I found out I had a broken tooth that was infected.  Before I could get it extracted I was overwhelmed by fatigue – and indeed, I had COVID (fortunately, I don’t seem to have shared with anyone).  I also had a shortness of breath, which turned out to be a problem with my heart!!

Suddenly, it’s the middle of March and I’ve only made a couple pairs of earrings.

I’ve been “wintering,” a term Katherine May uses in her book of the same title to talk about how we need to take time to rest and recover from the stresses of daily life.  Well, after the addition of several medications, a new diet, and the extraction of my tooth, I am now ready to re-enter mainstream life.  Wintering is over!  View of a stream in early springView of a stream in early spring

Since I don’t really have any new work to show at this time, I’ll share a couple of photos of earrings I created at the end of last year.  These will show the starting point of my adventure as I try to define my style using some new silversmithing and soldering skills I learned from Susan Lenart at the end of last year.  She is a fantastic silversmith and has her own unique style.  Now I need to try to build out from there to find my own.
